Simple Strategies to Stay Motivated During Tough Times

What the Book Is About

Friendly conversation over coffee

When bookseller Jade Taylor accepts a summer job managing the Little Bay Book Shack on Nantucket Island, she expects a laid-back escape from city stress. But her peaceful plans are quickly dashed when she crosses paths with Liam Haven, the brooding billionaire who wants to demolish the beloved bookshop and expand his resort empire.

Jade’s not about to let that happen. She’s determined to save the shop—and maybe open Liam’s heart in the process. As the summer unfolds, their chemistry grows, and they both have to confront their pasts to see if a happily-ever-after is truly possible.

This opposites-attract, small-town romance is full of heart, witty banter, and characters you can’t help but root for.

Why It Works

Friendly conversation over coffee

Booked for the Summer hits all the right beats for a romantic comedy: enemies-to-lovers tension, a charming setting, and plenty of quirky side characters to round out the vibe. But what makes it stand out is its emotional depth. Beneath the breezy summer setting is a story about grief, healing, and learning to trust again.

The pacing moves quickly—set over just three months—but never feels rushed. You really feel the stakes for both characters, especially as they face real-life complications that go far beyond flirtation and flirtiness.

A Couple That Feels Real

Friendly conversation over coffee

Jade is exactly the kind of heroine you want in a contemporary romcom—smart, sarcastic, loyal, and completely herself. She brings color and joy into every scene, and the audiobook narrator makes her voice pop even more.

And then there’s Liam. Oh, Liam.

The grumpy billionaire might seem like a trope, but here, he’s layered and believable. Yes, he’s conflicted. Yes, he pulls away at times. But his past is filled with abandonment, and it shows in his fear of closeness. I saw some readers frustrated with his indecision, but honestly—if you’d been left your entire life, wouldn’t you be a little hesitant too?

The author doesn’t shy away from making Liam feel human, and that’s what makes his growth so rewarding.

Why It Worked for Me

Oh gosh, where do I even begin? I loved this wholesome, sweet book sooooo much! It had everything I was craving in a contemporary romance, and I enjoyed the entire ride from start to finish.

The audiobook narrator nailed it—Jade felt so real and fun, and Liam? A perfectly broody, misunderstood softie underneath all that armor. I know not everyone was Team Liam, but I absolutely am. The way he processes his trauma in such a short time span felt real, not rushed.

As readers, we often expect characters to have it all figured out by the final chapter. But this book reminded me that love can be messy, complicated, and still so worth it.

Should You Read It?

Friendly conversation over coffee

If you love small-town romances, bookstores, sunshine, and a hero who grows into his own vulnerability—yes, yes, YES. This is the book for you.

It’s lighthearted without being shallow, heartfelt without being heavy. And if you’re like me, you’ll fall hard for sassy Jade and sweet, broken Liam by the final chapter.
